Inner Goddess Dance Workshops - one for the mummies!

A lovely testimonial from Debbie talking about our new Inner Goddess Dance Workshops for women... starting April 2017!

"I think for me the idea of an " inner goddess workshop" felt a little indulgant. I feel woman are the harshest judges of ourselves and each other. We judge our own, and each other's age, appearance, career choices , parenting styles.... the list goes on. So for me , the workshop provided a safe forum, where I could be free from judgement, to replenish my needs, spiritually , mentally and physically. I met some truly inspirational woman, and left feeling liberated. It is imperative that we fill ourselves up before we can offer ourselves wholeheartedly to others. When people say " she is so full of herself" it is nothing less than a compliment. The full woman's cup overflows, and she literally has so much to give. It is a fun and sassy way for women to connect . You will leave this workshop feeling empowered."

Astara Students Shine!!

WOW - The shows were amazing.  We have had so much positive feedback from people.  It has been fabulous to see how so many of our students have grown in confidence.  We are so proud of them all.

Here is what David Mansfield had to say
" I wanted to say how brilliant I thought your show was that I attended Friday evening.
I specifically came to see my grand-daughter Chloe perform & apart from that I must admit that I was not looking forward to it, just a load of kids singing & dancing in true “Annie” form etc.
How wrong I was. Yes, seeing Chloe perform was fantastic, but the whole show was truly amazing & some of the acts just took my breath away. Well done for all your hard work & effort & I  am looking forward to the next one with much more enthusiasm. The cherry on the cake was when Chloe got her award at the end, I was just bursting with pride. Please keep up the good work."
We are already planning next years' shows!

Don't forget to book your places at our Holiday Workshops.  We have so many this year, with something for everyone.  Musicals Summer School, Dance Masterclass, Audition Technique, Beach Party, Pop Star Day, Disney Day!  If you book three or more, you get a discount too!  Go to the Book Classes page or Contact us at parties@astara.co.uk to book.

Summer School Success

Summer school was fantastic.  We produced a brand new 40 minute musical with under 12 hours of practice, including costume changes! Well done to everyone involved. It was lovely to see one of our older students, Ellie, return to us.  She delivered two excellent solo character songs.  We also welcomed Laura Thompson, our new Astara teacher.  She ran the Summer School alongside Charlotte and will be taking classes in September.

Don't forget to come along to our open day on Saturday 14th September between 10am and 1pm at Great Waltham Village Hall.  You can find out all about Astara and maybe try out a taster class as well.
Look forward to seeing you there.

So excited about Summer School

I am getting really excited about Summer School and everything we have planned for it.  As I write this, there are still a few places left so you can still book in for three days of fun from 29th to 31st July.

Recently, Astara have attended school fetes at Moulsham Junior School and at White Court Primary School. The Astara children who performed did us proud.  Both days were so much fun.  We had sweets in a jar competitions, did glitter tattoos and met lots of lovely people.  Definitely plan to do more of these in the future.
DVD's of Charlie's Chocolate Factory are in production right now and will be available to buy soon!
Hope you all enjoy your summer holidays.

Charlie's Chocolate Factory

Charlie's Chocolate Factory

Wow!  What a great show!  The hard work paid off and the children were all stars.  The audiences seemed to thoroughly enjoy every show and the performers had lots of fun too.  Although it all looked fantastic on stage, there was so much hard work done in the background to make sure it all ran smoothly.  It wouldn't be a show without a couple of minor mishaps like the Oompa Loompas accidentally locking Joey Essex and Amy Childs outside, but that's all part of the fun of live performing.

DVD's of the show will be available soon as will a disc of photographs taken by Claire Naylor from Claire Naylor Photography.  Check out our facebook page for a few shots from the finale.
Looking forward to Summer School now.

Have a wicked weekend people!

Why is a raven like a writing desk?! - Mad Hatter

Today I had an "Alice in Wonderland" themed tea party to attend to for sweet little Matylda who had just turned 4 years old.
I'm sure most of you wonder if I dressed up as the Alice but I didn't - The birthday girl herself dressed up as Alice and so the "Mad Hatter" made a surprise visit to her Birthday Party. I had my trusty white rabbit who was indeed "late for an important date!" amongst many other themed games!

With a tea pot bouncy castle and 6 giant teacups for the kids to play in, topped off with a fantastic themed birthday cake specially made by the birthday girl's mummy, it was the finishing touch to this inventive party.  This party was nothing short of a typical Mad Hatter's Tea Party - Alice in Wonderland Style by Astara.

Check out the photos on the Astara Facebook!

Hope everyone had a lovely and sunny bank holiday weekend.

White Court Primary School gets danced out!

Today was apparently the hottest day of the year so far! How's everyone enjoying the sunshine?! Any BBQ's yet?

Earlier this week, White Court Primary School welcomed us to teach their lovely children. A mix of ages 5-7 and 8-10 from 3.30pm – 5pm. It was a wonderful success with a mixture of dancing and acting, and lots of fun games for our first class! It makes me so pleased when I see the children get so involved in performing arts at such a young age. Reminds me of when I was little and wanting to perform whenever I got the opportunity! I picked up on a lot of talent this week, so who knows, if we get more children to the class, maybe there'll be a mini production on the cards for the parents.

With a lot of children for that 1hr and half, I was very thankful to have Cherie, our new Astara teacher to help me out! I could tell the children all loved you! :-)

So a big thank you, and I'm sure everyone will join me in welcoming you to the Astara team!

Astara's new tap classes!

Hey fellow dancers!

It's been a manic start into 2013 and already we've left the cold weather and are into Spring!  Hope everyone is well and healthy.

2013 has welcomed the second term of Astara's successful tap classes! Thanks to all those who came along last term. Wonderful and delighted to see you again this term along with lots of new faces.

Whether you're interested in perfecting your time step, or just interested in starting another form of dance come along and join in the fun with routines throughout this term. You never know where your talent will lead with dancing ;-)

Astara offers classes for beginner levels, and intermediate/advanced levels on Thursday at Great Waltham Primary School. Classes must be booked ahead, but there's plenty of room still for newcomers.

Please contact the main email address for more information on how to book your classes!

Thursday Evenings @ Great Waltham Primary School Hall:

7-8pm – Beginners Tap

8-9pm – Intermediate/advanced tap

Riverdance watch out! This is one class you won't want to miss out.

Enjoy this lovely week of sunshine!

See you soon! Charlotte x

How fast did the Christmas week go?  And now its suddenly 2013!  Happy New Year to all my Astara clients!

Well the first thing to look forward to is a dance workshop on Thursday 3rd January with the older children 8-16 years.  We'll be working on a Contemporary routine in the morning and Hip Hop in the afternoon.  Along the way the kids will learn all about choreography and the techniques you need to choreograph your own work. Looking forward to seeing their talents shine out!  Dancercise/Senior Hip Hop starts back on Monday 7th January and the children's classes start back from Saturday 12th January.

There will also be a few changes to the timetable from January 2013.
  • Senior Hip Hop is now an hour class:  6:45-7:45pm on Mondays during term time
  • Boys dance will now start 5 minutes later: 4:35-5:05pm on Thursdays during term time
  • Dancercise will start 30 minutes later: 7:30-8:30pm on Thursdays
All the best
Charlotte x

Very much looking forward to Saturday 1st December - the start of Christmas!  Why not come down to Great Waltham Church between 11am - 3pm, to the Christmas fair?  50p per adult and children can enter for free!  There will be stalls, refreshments, a kids corner with arts and crafts plus the gorgeous Astara Startots (ages 3- 5years) will be dancing at 2:15pm!! Hope to see you there! Charlotte x

What a wonderful time we had in October half term this year.  Firstly there was Holly's Body Combat class which got everyone sweating within about 5 minutes!  A great martial arts inspired class which was extremely high energy.  Apparently in just 1 of the 10 exercises we did a total of 250 kicks!!  Feedback showed that everyones arms felt like heavy weights for a good few days afterwards so I bet there were many more punches!  Thanks Holly for coming all the way to Chelmsford to do this one off class :-)

Then it was Dancercise Halloween Special!  A great turn out for this class where we danced to "Backstreet Backs" from the good old Backstreet Boys, pretending to be zombies (as you do).  One hour and one whole dance routine completed - well done everyone!!  The video of the routine can be found on the facebook page:  Astara Dancercise Ladies.

To round all the halloween fun up, it was time for the kids to enjoy a 6 hour Halloween Theatre Workshop at Great Waltham Village Hall.  The children learnt scripts and did their own drama improvisation, using the stories of The Addams Family, The Witches and Ghostbusters!  Monster mashing dance routines were taught and the teenagers got to choreograph a thrilling opening hip hop number for the showcase to parents at the end of the day.  There were themed glitter tattoos, loads and loads of games and prizes won and to show you a sneaky peek of one of the most popular games please check out the "Holiday Workshops" page on the Astara website!

Hey all!  A big welcome to all the new Dancercise ladies over 40, who have joined the Monday night class in Great Waltham, Chelmsford over the passed couple of weeks.  Dancercise is a combination of dance and exericse (although hppefully the word Dancercise explains that itself!).  The dance style we are starting to work on is The Charleston and I am pleased to say it is going down really well.  At the last class we moved on from the initial dance phrase and I taught the ladies a little partner work step hehe!  Ok so it was very fast... but there's nothing wrong with that!!  The feedback I've been getting is The Charleston puffs you out!  That's the great thing about dance - you improve your fitness and stamina but you don't even realise it!  Keep up the good work girlies!  Also, if you have any friends, sisters, mums, etc who might want to try this class out, they are very welcome to a free class! Just get in touch via the contact page!  See you all soon :-)

I look forward to hearing from you/seeing you at a class soon!

Starts Monday 24th September!  The new dance style is The Charleston!

After another successful Summer show named:  Shrek's Surprise Birthday Bash!...  I am hoping that the children have made the most of their well deserved Summer break as the new term is beginning.  Don't forget you can still buy the show DVD and photos, just ask for an order form at class.  Ladies who came back to Dancercise last week, welcome back and I hope you are enjoying the new street dance routine!  Kindly, Miss Jess stepped into my teaching role for me when I was away in July and as well as being able to watch her work on video, I have had superb feedback!  Whilst on my travels in Thailand this Summer I stayed with a wonderful Thai family in a little village (on top of a mountain) in North Thailand and as a thank you for letting us stay with them I thought I'd teach the children how to moonwalk... check out this video clip for proof!

So what's exciting about this term...  Well for the children we are back to fun non-show work classes!  (I mean we all love to work towards the show but now it's time to let our hair down and I have a few games up my sleeves!).  Senior Hip Hop will no doubt be working towards their next opportunity to perform and I will investigate some local events.  Dancercise ladies, you will have to let me know what styles you fancy trying out next.  I am thinking:  Samba and cheerleading?  Not at the same time obviously!  I wonder if that's possible....
Then next on my agenda, I'm currently thinking of a new show to get creative on for next Summer!  EEK!

See you all soon

Woweeeee!!!!  THE WIZARD OF OZ is finally done and dusted!  This time the children performed 3 shows in one weekend (as well as a full dress run!) and they impressed me so much, especially the 3-5 year old Startots, who were the lion cubs.  They sat and watched each show beautifully and got up when it was the right time to rooooaaarrrrr!!!  We sold out on every show and I have received some lovely comments back from the audience and parents, so hopefully all my hard work and late nights thinking of new creative ideas really did pay off!  I also want to say again a huge "thank you" to all the mummies that helped with the children backstage and with costumes, etc.. you were greatly appreciated and I couldn't have had all 70 children in the show without your help!  I am very excited to see the DVD which is now in production - I don't want to spoil the surprise but we may have some backstage filming to show you too!

The next exciting project I'm focussing on is...... ESSEX STAGE ACADEMY www.essexstageacademy.co.uk check out the website to find out how your child can enjoy 3 days of dancing, singing, acting, song writing and arts & crafts in the Summer holidays!
Charlotte x

There are lots of exciting things keeping me busy at the moment!

Rehearsals for The Wizard of Oz show are going swimmingly and fingers crossed, it will be alright on the night!  I'm happy to announce that tickets are now on sale at £4 each and under 5's go free!  There will be 3 shows in total.  Saturday 16th July at 3pm, Sunday 17th July at 11am and 3pm.  Last year tickets went so quickly so do make sure you get ours asap!

Also in the Astara mix is the opening of my Downham Saturday School branch, starting this Saturday 11th June.  There are still places available on these musical theatre classes for children aged 3 -13years.  Drop  me an e-mail if you want to know more!

Meanwhile, my lovely Dancercise ladies are grooving and moonwalking with our current "Michael Jackson' style routine. "OWW!" looking good!

Keep dancing.... x

New Astara hoodies and t-shirts are being welcomed by many Astara students at the moment.  A swarm of purple hoodies are starting to take over Great Waltham.. and it's all my fault!  They do look lovely though and the children are over the moon to have their names on the back.  At least if they get mixed up we shall know who's is who's!  In the meantime, rehearsals for the Summer Show are progressing very well and we are all having fun along the way!

I am very much looking forward to meeting my new students at Downham Village Hall on Saturday 11th June... there are still spaces available for these afternoon Musical Theatre classes so get in touch if you're interested in signing your child up!
Best Wishes, Charlotte x

To start 2011 with something new and exciting I am so pleased to announce that in the coming months ASTARA will be offering brand new classes!!  An afternoon 'Mother & Toddler Dance Class' for introducing music and dance to the under 3's.  Plus a long awaited 'Teen Hip Hop Class' on a Monday evening directed specifically at kids aged 13-18 years and open to boys and girls.  On top of all that ASTARA shall be offering party packages for adults!  Dance Parties and Photoshoot Parties are top of the list and coming your way soon....... x

After a cracking Christmas Show on Saturday 18th December - it's left me feeling very festive indeed!  Especially with all the music and costumes... I quite like being an elf!  The bad snowy weather left me with no option but to cancel the evening performance (I think this was certainly the safest option!).  Not to worry though as the Christmas Show is rescheduled for Saturday 8th January at 4pm at the Great Waltham Village Hall. I look forward to seeing most of you there!  Tickets are still available - at £2.50 each.. what a bargain!

Not only have we still got the show to look forward to, but also a Christmas workshop! Tuesday 28th December 10-1pm Juniors and 1-4pm Seniors.  With dancing, singing, games and glitter tattoos.. what more could you want! There are places available on both workshops.

But most importantly, before all that happens, its.... CHRISTMAS!!

Wishing you all a very merry time with hopefully plenty of dancing and singing!!

Hi everybody!

I'm very excited to announce the launch of Astara on Saturday 4th September!

I hope those of you that can make the launch party have a brilliant time!  There will be music, food and drink, face painting and star designing for the children, as well as 2 performances - one from the children who took part in this years Summer School and a Salsa performance that the Dancercise ladies have recently learnt!  Not only do we have all that but there will be two great raffles with fantastic prizes such as:  free personal training sessions, a photoshoot, facial, colonic session, beauty products, etc .  Plus lots of gifts and prizes for the children's raffle!

You can also enrol your child for classes for this term and find out more about Dancercise and children's themed parties and a DVD of the Summer Show will be available for purchase!

Look forward to seeing you all there!
